India’s national cricket team has received a massive financial reward after winning the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced a huge bonus of ₹1.31 billion (around $14.24 million) to honor the team’s remarkable achievement.
The announcement came shortly after India lifted the trophy in Ahmedabad, where they defeated New Zealand by 96 runs in the final. The bonus from the Indian cricket board is nearly six times larger than the official prize money provided by the ICC for winning the tournament.
During the tournament, the champions received $2.34 million from the International Cricket Council. However, the additional reward from BCCI significantly boosts the total earnings for the victorious squad.
According to the cricket board, the bonus will not only go to the players but will also be distributed among the coaching staff, selectors and support personnel who played a role in the team’s success.
In an official message, the BCCI congratulated the entire squad and management for delivering such an outstanding performance on home soil. The board also expressed hope that the team would continue achieving greater milestones in the future.
This reward is one of the largest bonuses ever given to an Indian cricket team. Previously, when India won the Champions Trophy, the board had distributed around $6.72 million among the players and staff.
With this victory, India has now become three-time champions of the Men’s T20 World Cup, strengthening their legacy in the shortest format of the game.
Team captain Suryakumar Yadav said the squad will now focus on their next major target winning a gold medal at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, where cricket is set to be part of the Games.
Cricket continues to be the most followed sport in India, and its leading players enjoy massive popularity and celebrity status across the country.
